Whip It Out: Songs For Breastfeeding

by Moorea Malatt

Whip It Out: Songs For Breastfeeding has been one of my favorite things to listen to since my daughter was born. Moorea’s album is simply delightful. And it’s not just for breastfeeding moms or breastfed babies, though those contingencies would certainly love it. Rather, the “breastfeeding” in the title is a stand-in for all the things that nourishment represents: love, bonding, dinner, attachment, gentleness and the sweet sweet connection between parent and child.

These songs contain breastfed babies, bottle fed babies, breastmilk and formula fed babies, a premie, a family with two dads, a baby who is weaning, a baby who never sleeps. There are appearances from scenes in every parent’s life: naked babies running around the house, Lansinoh, Sleep Sheep, and the eponymous “Booby Snack” (which nursing is now known as in my house).

It really is a joy to listen to - upbeat and dance-able, you will have fun jamming to it with your baby. But it is also such a fun celebration of parenthood. You will definitely find yourself saying, “yep, totally” at the “1,000 outfits in the laundry”, “airing out the heiny so it won’t get a rash” and “bounce us here upon your lap or oh, no no no we won’t nap”. The best toys, music, television and movies aimed at children are those that also speak to adults and Whip it Out is the best combination of both.

Get one for yourself! Or, better yet, do what I did and get one for you AND your lactation consultant who got you breastfeeding AND your friend who just had a baby AND your mom friend who will soon be weaning her third and last baby. It’s very very worth the $14.97.
